Boost Preschool is a continuation of our pilot program, TheraPlay, offered at the Jennifer Katz, Inc. offices.   TheraPlay was created as a small group, multi-disciplinary approach for children with a wide range of learning styles and needs. TheraPlay families asked for more, and we wanted to extend support to more children and families.  When we found a lovely preschool space in Noe Valley,  Boost Preschool was born!

Here are parent testimonials about TheraPlay:

"Max began group therapy with minimal ability for reciprocal communication.  I am seeing Max not only initiate reciprocal dialogue with me but actually having conversations with people in other environment like the grocery store, his brother's elementary school, etc.  Before he began work in group sessions, conversations simply happened above and around him.  I worked like crazy just to get a single word answer out of him to simple questions about dinner for example.  Now he approaches me several times per day where he initiates conversations with meaningful questions about what the people around us are doing, asking my opinion about things, etc.  I had absolutely no idea and definitely no expectation that this would be happening.  It is truly amazing."

"TheraPlay did what no other program out there could do.  Our child has severe expressive language delay as well as apraxia of speech.  We had gone through three programs when we found TheraPlay.  The low teacher:child ratio and the skill of the speech-language pathologist made it possible for my child to have positive social peer interactions and make friends for the first time."

"We have had a difficult time finding a school that would accept our son because of his feeding challenges.  Besides his difficulties surrounding eating and feeding he is a typically developing kiddo! The staff at TheraPlay took the time to learn about his feeding routing and allowed me to teach them how to properly feed him.  Thank you!"

"My son can't wait to go to 'school.' One of my favorite parts of the program has been that he has made friends that he gets together with outside of school.  As a parent it's been great getting to know the other parents."

"My hopes for Nicholas at the age of nearly three were to increase his speech in real-life settings, increase his participation and ability to attend to tasks in preschool, and to help him learn how to interact directly with other children (with the aid of a teacher as necessary).  He had been in one-on-one speech for almost a year and had made considerable strides.  However, after starting in TheraPlay, those strides extended into huge bounds in socialization.  After six months, new language and social interactions have continued to build upon one another and have given him a solid framework to use in his regular school (many more students, fewer teachers). While initially he was quite shy, Nicholas quickly began talking nonstop about his TheraPlay friends."

"The teacher's unwavering high expectations for each student are key-and possible to implement due to the fantastic student-teacher ratio.  There is ample time and considerable effort to make certain each child attends to tasks, participates in activities, responds to conversation/commands and creates his/her own language.'"
